Take-All-Root-Rot (TARR) Treatment
Take-All-Root-Rot (TARR) is a fungal disease that causes weak, brown, dead patches in turfgrass. The symptoms often appear in spring or early summer when the grass emerges from winter dormancy. Although it is possible for TARR to be found in any type of warm season turfgrass, in North Texas it almost exclusively infects St. Augustine Lawns.
Our turfgrass programs include disease control to combat and prevent diseases such as Gray Leaf Spot, Brown Patch, and TARR, but since TARR is a particularly tough disease, significant cases are better treated by topdressing the infected areas of the lawn with peat moss. TARR thrives in high PH soils, and peat moss helps to quickly reduce soil PH. Studies have shown peat moss topdressing to be more effective at combatting TARR than fungicide applications alone. We have found that topdressing with peat moss, in conjunction with the fungicides included in our turfgrass programs, is a very effective method of dealing with TARR.
If you suspect that you have a nasty case of TARR, give us a call! Although we believe that peat moss combined with our turfgrass program is the best way to deal with TARR and other diseases, we’re happy to provide a quote for peat moss topdressing as a standalone service.
